Brighton Community Update: November 4-14, 2026
The votes are in, the leaves are falling, and our Veterans Day Parade is this Saturday. Since moving to the Brighton and South Lyon area, I've loved seeing how this community shows up for its schools and its veterans. Here's what's happening in Brighton.
Events
Outsmart the Scammers Seminar, Thursday, Nov. 5, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., SELCRA (7540 Whitmore Lake Rd.). Learn how to spot fraud red flags, what to do if you or a loved one is targeted, and how to protect your family. It's free, and friends and family are welcome.
Veterans Day Parade, Saturday, Nov. 7, 11 a.m. to noon, downtown Brighton. Bring the kids, bring a flag, and thank a veteran.
Brunch Bunch Book Discussion, Tuesday, Nov. 10, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Brighton District Library, Room A/B (100 Library Dr.). This month's book is The First Witch of Boston by Andrea Catalano. Everyone is welcome.
Annual Quilt & Craft Sale, Friday-Saturday, Nov. 13-14, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., First United Methodist Church (400 E. Grand River Ave.). Shop more than 120 handmade, heirloom-quality quilts plus crafts, baby items, and holiday decor. Proceeds benefit Days for Girls and the church's endowment.
Save the date: The Holiday Glow & Christmas Market is Saturday, Nov. 21, from 1 to 7 p.m.
News
The Brighton Area Schools bond passed. Unofficial results show the bond of up to $90.275 million passing 12,934 to 10,551 (about 55%). The district says it won't raise the tax rate. It covers safety upgrades and secure entrances, roof and cooling repairs, classroom and science/music space updates, elementary gyms, and improvements to the Brighton Center for the Performing Arts. Results are unofficial until they're certified.
Slowing traffic on Brighton Lake Road. The City's new digital speed signs on Brighton Lake Road are up and running. Police Chief Brent Pirochta says the signs on Fairway Trails have gotten "nothing but positive feedback," and the City plans to add more in future budgets.
Road & Construction Updates
- N. Fourth Street and Walnut Street railroad crossing: CSX has the intersection completely closed for track repairs through Friday, Nov. 6. Residents still have access to their homes, so follow the detour signs. Questions? Call Brighton DPS at 810-225-8001.
- I-96/Grand River: The westbound Grand River ramp to eastbound I-96 stays closed until 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 15. The detour is Hilton Road to Old US-23 to Spencer Road.
- Main Street, Heidelberg Road to N. Shore Drive (Green Oak Township): Livingston County Road Commission rehab work is scheduled through Nov. 16. Expect one lane under flag control at times.
School Happenings
- BHS Dramatic Arts presents A Spirited Manor: This gothic Victorian murder mystery plays at the Brighton Center for the Performing Arts (7878 Brighton Rd.) Friday, Nov. 6, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, Nov. 7, at 2 and 7 p.m.; and Sunday, Nov. 8, at 2 and 7 p.m. The violence happens offstage, but the show has murder and gothic horror themes, so keep that in mind for younger kids.
- Bulldogs football: Brighton's season ended in the district semifinal at East Kentwood. Thanks for a great fall, Dogs!
