Fenton & Linden Community Update: November 4-14, 2026

The Fenton Tigers are playing for a district title, and Linden voters had their say on the sinking fund. After 20+ years in Fenton, and with a child still at Lake Fenton Schools, I love this time of year. Here's what's happening in Fenton and Linden.

Events

Griffins Varsity Hockey Lock-In, Friday, Nov. 13, 6:30 to 10:30 p.m., Fenton High School (main student entrance). This one's for 3rd-6th graders, with karaoke, swimming, floor hockey, pizza, and more. It's $40 at the door, or save $5 by preregistering online. There are no early drop-offs or pickups.

Square Dance Party, Friday, Nov. 13, 7 to 9 p.m., Linden Loose Center (707 N. Bridge St., Linden).

Mother/Son Dance (Tie-Dye Theme!), Saturday, Nov. 14, 6 to 8 p.m., Linden Middle School (15425 Lobdell Rd.). Tickets are sold at school buildings, the MPB, Ace Hardware, and online until noon on Nov. 14, then at the door.

Save the date: The State Road Arts & Craft Show is Sunday, Nov. 15, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Fenton High School (3200 W. Shiawassee). Admission is $5, and all proceeds go to the State Road Elementary PTO.

News

Ballot results (unofficial, from the Genesee County Clerk's election-night report):

  • Linden Community Schools Sinking Fund: It passed narrowly, 1,978 to 1,884. This keeps the 1.1603-mill sinking fund at the same rate for 2027-2036.
  • Fenton Township Trash Collection Assessment Renewal: It passed, 7,033 to 2,481.
  • Countywide: The Genesee County Health Care Services and Animal Care Shelter millage renewals both passed.

Deer management in the City of Fenton. On Oct. 26, City Council approved Police Chief Jason Slater's request to submit a deer damage and conflict resolution plan to the state. If it's approved, the City would run a controlled sharpshooting program and donate the venison to local food assistance programs.

Growth to watch: The Fenton Township Board had the second reading and vote on the 99-acre Ripley/Rolston rezoning (for a proposed 111-unit open space subdivision) on its Nov. 3 agenda. A proposed rezoning moratorium for the Town Center District was also up for a first reading. I'll share the outcomes once they're reported.

Road & Construction Updates

  • Lahring Road is back open! The Genesee County Road Commission has reopened Lahring Road between Linden Road and Ripley Road in Fenton Township.
  • US-23 Fenton Rest Area (northbound): It stays closed through late November for water-main work.

School Happenings

  • District final, Friday, Nov. 6, 7 p.m.: After beating Holly 41-16, Fenton travels to Mason for the Division 3 district championship at Mason High School. Tickets are on GoFan. Go Tigers!
  • Cross-country state finals, Saturday, Nov. 7: Fenton junior Gavin Katic won the Division 1 regional title (15:00.7) and is headed to the MHSAA Lower Peninsula Finals at Michigan International Speedway. Congrats as well to the Linden girls cross-country team, regional champions!
  • Linden football: The Eagles' season ended at Redford Thurston. Thanks for a great season!
  • Lake Fenton pride: 35 Class of 2027 students volunteered at the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan. They boxed 7,430 pounds of food for senior care packages. Proud to be BLUE!
