South Lyon Community Update: November 4-14, 2026

Election Day is behind us, and now it's the game this whole town has been waiting for: South Lyon vs. South Lyon East, with a district title on the line! With twins at Millennium Middle School, I know how big this one is. Here's what's happening in South Lyon.

News

The Lyon Township Library millage is too close to call. The new 1.1-mill, 10-year operating millage for the Lyon Township Public Library was separated by a razor-thin margin in election-night returns, and outlets are reporting different unofficial totals. I'll share the result once it's official.

Road & Construction Updates

  • Pontiac Trail/Lafayette: Two-way traffic is open from 9 Mile to Reynold Sweet Parkway. Northbound is still closed from Reynold Sweet to the CSX tracks, but southbound is open. The northbound detour is 9 Mile to Griswold to 10 Mile to Martindale to 11 Mile. RCOC's latest weekly update (Oct. 30) lists completion in mid-November.
  • 9 Mile Road between Griswold and Currie: It's still closed from just east of Addison Boulevard to Briar Meadow Drive for developer paving, now expected to wrap up in early November. The detour is Griswold to 10 Mile to Currie.

School Happenings

  • District final, Friday, Nov. 6, 7 p.m.: South Lyon East visits South Lyon at South Lyon High School (1000 N. Lafayette St.) for the Division 2 district championship. The Lions beat Flushing 56-15 and the Cougars beat Saginaw Heritage 38-20 to get here. Tickets are $8 on GoFan.
  • Cross-country state finals, Saturday, Nov. 7: South Lyon East's Nikhil Ball (who set a school record of 15:38 at regionals), Maddie Newman, and Claire Porinsky qualified for the MHSAA Lower Peninsula Finals at Michigan International Speedway. Good luck, Cougars!
